Hello again and welcome to our neighborhood. When you click that link and see that small t.v. screen and flying birds you are officially in our "Hood". The Hood Shopping Network introduces our neighbors and audiences to new dope attractions, talent, and creatives from all over the world. Today We will be taking you to the neighborhood of New York City where we will have the chance and honor to introduce you to recording artist, Videographer, and student Willis "Willie" Caba.
Normally I write the artist exposure reviews, interviews, questions, and summaries. This edition of "New Neighbors" will be featured by "Gio" Marilyn Giordano. Gio is a student at John Jay and a dedicated fan to Willie. She was the individual that introduced me to Willie's music and I have been hooked every since.
I researched Willie's music and adapted to his style. I started off with the "Here till i'm gone" intro. I was welcomed. As you will be welcomed when you become familiar with Willie. He continues to sonically blend melodies and metaphorical story telling to convey his point. The point is that "he is going to keep working and he is going to make it". This is a similar message that most creatives attempt to convey to their audiences.
Now I was looking for Willie's difference. What was the track that was going to make me as an A&R and other A&R's say this is what made the message clear.
As I continued to listen I felt the difference. Art is inherently emotional. Visual art is seen then felt. Performing art is heard and seen then felt. I listened to Willie and felt the emotion of truth. I had went through things that he had went through. I became familiar with the new "neighbor" in my playlist.
I continued to "Get Familiar" and heard artist Mar Sease for the first time. His voice and punchlines touched each beat without hanging. It was cut clean and strong. The products of the creativity and talent of these two artists are strong individually but together creates an emphasis that compliments their individual styles.

Okay so I differentiated Willie's style, his affectionate expression of truth and appreciation for love caught my ear. Love is a powerful drug. The infatuation with the emotion creates the confusion that it's users cant explain. As Willie melodically comes on the track of "FareWell Amore" I am blown away by his articulation of that familiar friend that we find in that product called love. Willie makes his pain comprehensive and illustrates the consequences to that powerful product. With each consequence to love it seems as if we lose a sense. As love grows stronger some but not all become blinded or even deaf to our practical selves. Each song works as a medium to the Canvas of this mixtape which acts as Willie's heart and Brain at the time of production.
We have all heard the love songs. Everyone has had an inkling of what it is to give and not receive. I started to enjoy the mixtape because of the situations that I could relate with. As a listener an artist has to engage the audience and relate with them. This captures their attention and loyalty.
As humans we all experience lost. I had to repeat "Convo with KRS" three times. It is recorded over Young Money artist Drake's "I get lonely too". A close friend returns to Willie and discusses the circumstances of the "lost ones" death. As two friends go back and forth about life, death, God, and opportunities the listener gets the moral of the story. The moral is....appreciate life because it is not promised tomorrow and realize your gifts so you can use them to make living better.
"One Night Stand" a subtle lyrical invite to a good time with no strings attached put an emphasis on Willie's use of truth as his difference. As Willie tries to pursuit his potential lover for the night, he gives all the right reasons and all the right places.
Willie is truly an interesting creative on the NYC scene right now. He is up and coming and has an anticipated show coming up at Webster Hall. His fan base is broad but majorly based in NYC.
Now I would like you to "Gio". Gio is the young lady who put me on to Willie and she has a couple of things she would like to share about her favorite artist from The BX, Willis Caba. -Jane Dough for The Hood Shopping Network.

The Hood Shopping Network Presents :
"The New Neighbor Interview"
Written by: Jane Dough
Featuring: Willie Caba
THSNB: What's good Willie Caba? How you feeling?
WILLIE: How's it going? I'm feeling great.
THSNB: The Hood Shopping Network Blog is interested in the environment in which an artist is nurtured commonly known as their "hood" or neighborhood. Where is Willie Caba's hood? WILLIE: My hood is NYC. I like to keep that very general. NYC as a whole.
THSNB: Tell us why you love your hood? What are the first artistic things you think of when your hood is brought up? WILLIE: I love my hood because it's filled with creative people. I think we get overlooked at many times. One of the first artistic thing I think about is
just humans being themselves. That's enough creativity for me.
THSNB: When you fell in love with music as an art form, which individuals or songs were the key influences in your motivation to create and express? WILLIE: Someone dear to me. No need to mention who. But someone special to me encouraged me to write my first song.
THSNB: Management is very important for an independent or signed artist. Do you have management or a street team? How did you become affiliated with your team? WILLIE: Nope. I have no management nor a street team. Just my best friend, the core fans I have and myself is what generates this movement to become stronger and stronger at the moment. THSNB: What area have most of your performances in the past been held? What has been your favorite performance so far? WILLIE: I performed at a location called SMASH Studios in the city. It was my
favorite performance because it was my very first performance as an artist.
WILLIE: Do you have any upcoming shows? Where can we see you perform in the future? THSNB: Yes I do. I'm doing my second concert being held at Webster Hall on October27th, 2011...People can simply go to ticketmaster.com and purchase a
ticket. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/3wvzgzd
THSNB: What position do you feel that you are playing in the very competitive
underground music industry? WILLIE:Well, I don't look at this industry as a something I'm playing or something
competitive. I sincerely do what I feel. I tend to think of me aside from my
peers who chances are look at this industry as something competitive.
THSNB: Who do you anticipate to work with in the future? (Producers, Directors, Artists, Engineers, etc.) WILLIE: I would love to have conversation with certain individuals rather than to
work with them. If the feeling is right and things falls into place; then
yes; I would love to work with them. Work needs to feel organic with it
comes to music; it can't be planned. So, on that note; I would love to have
a conversation about life & music with Sade, Jay-Z & R.Kelly. If these conversation spark up something to work on some music; then I'll gladly do
so. THSNB: Who are/were some independent artist in your hood that you have worked with or that you feel is doing their thing right now? WILLIE:I've worked with Mar Sease. I think he's truly a humble-hungry artist that truly wants to be heard by the world so he could preach his music towards them. Big ups to my homey Mar Sease(http://www.youtube.com/He001qb)
THSNB: Out of all the expressions that you could have chose, why do you feel
music was your outlet? WILLIE: I believe music is an outlet for me because there's so many levels of
emotions I can express verbally. I can speak to a bunch of people with one
song. I love the idea behind it.
THSNB:How do you use music in your everyday life? WILLIE:Music controls my every instinct. Music is now part of my life.
THSNB: How are you spreading the medication and education of your music in your area WILLIE:Well, the education aspect I express through music is that I direct and edit all my videos. I'm currently in school for "Film & Video". I guess that
goes to show people that there's always a way to squeeze in education
somehow in whatever you love doing. THSNB: What is your latest release and where can we find it? WILLIE: My latest release is my 2nd mixtape entitled, "What's Next!?".

How do you feel your experiences with Next Selection have become a positive addition to your overall experience and career? WILLIE: It's shown me a lot. I'm very blessed to be given the experience in my life. Makes me feel lucky. THSNBWhat are some of your favorite things to do when you touch down in your head. WILLIE: "Touch down in my head"; not sure what you mean. But; I'll take as a general question: What are some of the my favorite things to do? I truly
love watching movies on Netflix and thinking. I love doing both of those
things. It's fun to me.
THSNB: Artist are nurtured, encouraged, enriched, patronized, and appreciated
by many people. This section is meant to give our audiences a look at who
needs a shout out. Please list your shout outs for this question.
WILLIE: Big shout out to my family & closed friends. They know who they are.
